About Mary Joy
I’m Mary Joy Cohen – MSN-Ed, RN, AHN-BC, HWNC-BC – but most people here know me simply as Mary.
After more than 30 years as a nurse, educator, and holistic practitioner, I’ve learned that transformation happens when we address the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.
I now serve the nursing profession at two levels:
In nursing education, I partner with nursing schools to deliver holistic wellness coaching that helps students reconnect to their calling, build self-compassion, and develop the sustainable well-being needed to complete their degrees. As MSN adjunct faculty at Pacific College of Health and Science, I’ve witnessed firsthand how students thrive when supported holistically.
In individual practice, I work with nurses, healthcare professionals, and anyone navigating burnout, sleep challenges, hormonal transitions, and life transitions. Through coaching, clinical hypnosis, NLP, HeartMath coherence training, Yoga Nidra, and evidence-based mind-body practices, I help clients regulate their nervous systems and restore vitality.
My trauma-informed approach is grounded in Dr. Aimie Apigian’s Biology of Trauma® Model, integrating somatic awareness and nervous system regulation to address stored trauma at a cellular level.
My work is deeply influenced by the holistic nursing frameworks of Barbara Dossey and Dr. Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring with Caritas processes, bringing transpersonal caring and whole-person wellness to both nursing education and individual practice.
My mission: To support nurses at every stage – helping students stay in nursing through holistic education, and helping practicing nurses sustain themselves through compassionate, transformational care.
Because nursing is a calling worth protecting – in ourselves and in the next generation.
